Voice Disorders & Therapy
Alison has extensive clinical experience helping people with a variety of speech and voice disorders.
She has worked in hospital, rehabilitation and community settings. Individuals may self-refer, and referrals are also accepted from health professionals such as general practitioners, ear nose and throat surgeons, and physiotherapists, among others.
Disorders may be isolated to the voice only, such as adductor spasmodic dysphonia and muscle tension dysphonia, or may occur as effects of other problems such as stroke, traumatic brain injury or Parkinson’s disease.

Chronic Cough & PVFM
Many people can experience a cough that goes on and on, while all medical investigations have shown there is no major illness or cause. We say that the cough is 'refractory' to medical treatment.
Manage & Reduce
Alison has been involved in clinical research into chronic cough, and has a particular interest in proven non-invasive behavioural techniques to manage and reduce the cough.
Paradoxical Vocal Fold Movement
Further, Alison is also able to help people with Paradoxical Vocal Fold Movement (PVFM), also known as Vocal Cord Dysfunction. This is when the vocal folds can close over even when a person is not actually speaking. It can feel like the throat is actually closing over, and the individual can feel like they are choking.
Alison has clinical experience in the successful treatment of these problems.

Voice & Speech Improvement
Alison conducts personal training to improve the quality of the speaking voice, and also works with singers and their teachers to address vocal difficulties.
Voice & Speech Training
Alison conducts individual and group training for people who depend on their voice for work, such as teachers, fitness instructors and media presenters, among others.
Older members of the community can also benefit from voice training, as the voice can deteriorate with age. Anyone who needs help to achieve better clarity of speech or pronunciation can benefit from speech training.
Alison is also able to help non-native speakers improve the clarity of their speech in English.
With her interest in linguistics, that is, in words, language and communication, Alison also helps individuals and groups improve their vocabulary, as well as ease and effectiveness with verbal expression.
